# Region Keys

Response fields for each region in a returned `regions` array (from the [Search](/navigator-api-docs/api-reference/search.md) endpoint).

| `region_id`                           | number  | Numerical unique region identifier.                                                                                                |
| `region_shortcode`                    | string  | Alphabetical unique region identifier.                                                                                             |
| `name`                                | string  | Region name.                                                                                                                       |
| `geography_type`                      | string  | Category of region, e.g. Region (multiple countries), Country, Country Region, National-Overseas, Subnational, Subnational Region. |
| `region_label`                        | string  | Human-friendly label corresponding to `geography_type`.                                                                            |
| `region_nest_level`                   | number  | Nesting level within the region hierarchy.                                                                                         |
| `region_parent_id`                    | number  | Parent region ID, if the region is nested inside another.                                                                          |
| `seaaroundus_id`                      | number  | Reference ID for the Sea Around Us database.                                                                                       |
| `children`                            | boolean | `true` if the region has child regions; `false` otherwise.                                                                         |
| `priority`                            | number  | Used to override alphabetical ordering in UI menus.                                                                                |
| `latitude`                            | number  | Center latitude, used for map centering.                                                                                           |
| `longitude`                           | number  | Center longitude, used for map centering.                                                                                          |
| `zoom`                                | number  | Default starting zoom level for map views.                                                                                         |
| `total_marine_area`                   | number  | Total marine area of the region (sq. km).                                                                                          |
| `total_mpa_area`                      | number  | Total non-overlapping area of MPA-type sites in the region (sq. km).                                                               |
| `total_other_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping area of non-MPA sites in the region (sq. km).                                                                |
| `total_lfp_5_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping LFP 5 area in the region (sq. km).                                                                           |
| `total_lfp_4_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping LFP 4 area in the region (sq. km).                                                                           |
| `total_lfp_3_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping LFP 3 area in the region (sq. km).                                                                           |
| `total_lfp_2_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping LFP 2 area in the region (sq. km).                                                                           |
| `total_lfp_1_area`                    | number  | Total non-overlapping LFP 1 area in the region (sq. km).                                                                           |
| `total_sites`                         | number  | Total number of sites in the region.                                                                                               |
| `total_mpa_sites`                     | number  | Total number of MPA-type sites in the region.                                                                                      |
| `total_other_sites`                   | number  | Total number of non-MPA sites in the region.                                                                                       |
| `subzones_count`                      | number  | Number of subzones in the region.                                                                                                  |
| `wdpa_marine_count`                   | number  | Count of WDPA sites in the region.                                                                                                 |
| `wdpa_marine_coverage`                | number  | Percentage of region's marine area covered by WDPA sites.                                                                          |
| `last_stats_update`                   | string  | Date of the most recent stats update.                                                                                              |
| `boundary_source`                     | string  | Source information for the region's boundary data.                                                                                 |
| `region_version_notes`                | string  | Notes about the current region version.                                                                                            |
| `is_multi_jurisdictional`             | boolean | True if this region is itself a multi-jurisdictional area.                                                                         |
| `includes_multi_jurisdictional_areas` | boolean | True if this region contains multi-jurisdictional areas.                                                                           |
| `boundary_multi_jurisdictional_areas` | GeoJSON | Boundary of multi-jurisdictional areas within this region (only included if present).                                              |
| `region_boundary`                     | GeoJSON | Full boundary of the region (when `export_bounds=true` or boundary endpoints are used).                                            |
| `bounds`                              | GeoJSON | Minimum bounding box for the region boundary.                                                                                      |
| `variant`                             | boolean | Variant flag for the region, to prevent duplicate region results.                                                                  |
| `region_report`                       | boolean | True if a region report is available.                                                                                              |
| `most_heavily`                        | number  | Percentage of region covered by highly protected sites (LFP 4 + 5).                                                                |
| `mpa_percent`                         | number  | Percentage of region covered by MPA-type sites.                                                                                    |
| `other_area_percent`                  | number  | Percentage of region covered by non-MPA-type sites.                                                                                |
| `iso_sov`                             | string  | ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code of the **sovereign country** the region ultimately belongs to.                                             |
| `iso_ter`                             | string  | ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 code of the **territory**, if the region is a subnational/dependent territory (blank for countries).            |
